Sand barriers in Cedar Rapids

As a cresting Cedar River in September 2016 threatened Cedar Rapids, the city, contractors and hundreds of volunteers quickly worked to build barriers and activate pumps to stave off the worst. May's Island is protected Sept. 26, 2016, by a row of hastily erected sand barriers. (The Gazette)
